Implementation Delayed Temporarily for Internet Filing of CLE Report, Client Security Report and Pay

The staff at the office of Supreme Court Commissions advises that unexpected issues establishing on-line authentication capabilities have delayed implementation of the Internet report filing project temporarily. Work is ongoing to resolve the remaining issues, and the reporting site still is expected to be operational well before the filing deadline of March 1st. At the time the site becomes operational, each lawyer for whom the office of Court Commissions possesses a valid electronic mail address will receive a letter through the United States Postal Service containing a user name and password and directions for accessing the Court Commissions Internet reporting site.

A tutorial on how to use the on-line reporting site is available at each of the regular commission web pages, set out below. Lawyers are encouraged to peruse the tutorial to gain a basic understanding of the site’s capabilities and operation before using it the first time.

An additional advisory will be provided in the Iowa State Bar Association’s periodic electronic mail newsletter when the activation date for the Internet reporting function is established. Also, an announcement regarding activation of the Internet filing capability will be posted on the web page of each Commission when the activation date is known.

If you have not previously provided the office of Court Commissions a valid electronic mail address, you may call the office at (515) 725-8029 to report your address so that you will receive a letter with the access instructions. If the office of Court Commissions does not possess a valid electronic mail address for you, no Internet access instructions will be mailed. A valid electronic mail address is a requirement of the security system established for online access by lawyers to the Court Commissions Internet reporting site and other Judicial Branch resources on the Internet.

Bar Association Delegate to ABA

The Iowa State Bar Association is entitled to two State Bar Association Delegates in addition to the State Delegate position. The Iowa State Bar Association Board of Governors (BOG) at its March 22, 2005 quarterly meeting will nominate one or more bar association members for the office of State Bar Association Delegate to the ABA. The BOG nominations will be for one of the two State Bar Association Delegate positions. The bar association member selected as State Bar Association Delegate will begin her/his two year term after the August 2006 ABA Annual Meeting. If interested in being nominated by a member of the BOG, you are encouraged to visit with one or more of the Governors of the ISBA who are listed by judicial election district on the table of contents page of the monthly Iowa Lawyer magazine.
