The Young Lawyers Division’s 1st Annual Barristers' Ball
January 20, 2006

The Young Lawyers Division of The Iowa State Bar Association will be hosting the 1st Annual Barristers' Ball on January 20, 2006 at Embassy Suites Hotel in Des Moines. The event will include dinner, live music, dancing, and a silent auction. All lawyers are invited to attend this event.

Cocktails to begin at 6:00 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m.

Cost is $75 per person

All proceeds from the event will go to benefit the ISBA Public Service Project which promotes legal assistance to low income Iowans through probono and public service.

Register on-line for the 1st Annual Barristers' Ball online. Watch your mailbox for the opportunity to register via mail as well.



Federal Legislation Proposed (Please Review)

HR 4437 is proposed federal legislation that could have wide-ranging negative impact for Iowa attorneys and their clients. Because it was introduced just last week and is going to vote on Thursday, December 15, the Board of Governors for The Iowa State Bar Association
has not had time to take an official position on it. However, because of the serious nature of this bill we urge Iowa Bar members to review the material below. You are encouraged to contact Iowa members in the U.S. House of Representatives and voice any concerns that you may have regarding the proposed federal legislation. A list of contact numbers follows the summary below.

IOLTA grant Applications

The Iowa Supreme Court Lawyer Trust Account Commission is accepting applications for grants under the IOLTA program.

Iowa Court Rule 7.11 Amended

Chief Justice Lavorato signed a legislative report amending Iowa
Court Rule 7.11 Form 1 (Report of Referee). The amendments take effect
March 1, 2006.
