2006 Revisions To The Local federal Rules
The Local Rules Committee for the Northern and Southern Districts of Iowa has proposed certain revisions to the Local Rules, which were last amended effective January 1, 2003. These revisions were prompted by the implementation of mandatory electronic case filing in the Northern and Southern Districts. The committee also took this opportunity to propose some additional amendments to clarify a few of the existing rules, to add some language to address some additional areas of practice, and to make a few stylistic revisions so that the Local Rules are consistent with the style of recent amendments to the Federal Rules. The committee has posted its recommendations on the courts’ web sites, www.iand.uscourts.gov for the Northern District and www.iasd.uscourts.gov for the Southern District. The public is invited to review and make comments on these recommendations. Comments may be made using the procedures available on the web sites, or may be directed to United States Magistrate Judge Paul A. Zoss, 104 U.S. Courthouse, 320 Sixth Street, Sioux City, Iowa 51101; 712-233-3921; e–mail: paul_zoss@iand.uscourts.gov or United States Magistrate Judge Ross A. Walters, 407 U.S. Courthouse, 123 Walnut Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50309; 515-284-6217. Comments will be accepted through December 1, 2005. The proposed revisions to the local rules will become effective only upon approval by the Article III judges of the districts, which the committee anticipates will be on or before December 15, 2005. The planned effective date of the amendments is January 1, 2006.
