Cuba Trip Planned For ISBA Members

IOWA LAW DELEGATION TO CUBA

We are pleased to announce that a delegation of Iowa State Bar members will be visiting Cuba from April 4-10 2005.

Six days will be spent in Cuba getting a privileged look inside the Cuban legal system as well as learning more about the current political landscape. Our itinerary is filled with fascinating meetings and lectures from prominent Cuban judges, professors, lawyers and diplomats. We have also been granted permission by the President of the Supreme Court to attend a criminal trial in Havana.

As you may have already read in the newspapers, Iowa agricultural delegations have been recently allowed to visit Cuba to negotiate major trade deals with the Cuban government. Although travel to Cuba is highly restricted, our delegation will be authorized to travel under a general license (due to the nature of our visit). Only law professionals are permitted to take part in this delegation.

We plan to request approval for 10-15 CLE credits for the trip. The delegation will be limited to approximately 30 attorneys.

The cost of the trip inclusive of airfare from Cancun, Mexico to Havana, Cuba including hotel, Cuban transportation, presentations, and most meals is approximately $2400. In addition each participant will be responsible for his or her own airfare to Cancun.

If you are interested in becoming a part of the delegation please contact Kelley Rue (krue@iowabar.org ) or 515-243-3179. If you have questions you would like answered at this time either contact Kelley and we will try to get them answered. Deadline for submitting your deposit is January 17, 2005.
